Groom Responsibilities

Groom

Prior To Wedding

  • Help prepare guest list.
  • Purchase or pay for rental of wedding attire. Accompany best man and groomsmen to be fitted for formal wear. Purchase wedding gift for your bride.
  • Purchase gifts for best man and groomsmen.

Day of Ceremony

  • Arrive dressed at ceremony site one hour before the wedding for photographs.
  • Bring marriage license to ceremony.
  • Give necessary payments to the best man for ceremony officiant, musicians, etc.

Best man

Prior To Wedding

  • Host the bachelor party.
  • Purchase or pay for rental of own wedding attire.
  • Attend rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.

Day of Ceremony

  • Make arrangements to transport the groom to the ceremony and see that he is properly dressed.
  • Arrive dressed at ceremony site one hour before the wedding for photographs. Supervise the groomsmen and ushers. Hold the bride's ring during the ceremony. Sign the wedding certificate as a legal witness. Forward any payment to the ceremony officiant, musicians, etc. Make transportation arrangements for newlyweds, maid of honor, and himself to the reception. Offer the first toast to the bride and groom at the reception. Transport the couple to the airport or honeymoon suite.
  • Organize the return of all rented formal wear.

Father of Groom

Prior To Wedding

  • Select wedding attire that matches wedding party. Plan rehearsal dinner.
  • Give toast at rehearsal dinner.

Day of Ceremony

  • Arrive dressed at ceremony site one hour before the wedding for photographs.
  • Stand to the left of the groom's mother in the receiving line.

Mother of Groom

Prior To Wedding

  • Help prepare guest list.
  • Select attire that complements mother of the bride's Plan rehearsal dinner.
  • Plan rehearsal dinner.

Day of Ceremony

  • Arrive dressed at ceremony site one hour before the wedding for photographs.
  • Stand to the left of the bride's parents in the receiving line.

Groomsmen

Prior To Wedding

  • Purchase or pay for rental of own wedding attire.
  • Help best man with bachelor party.
  • Attend rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.

Day of Ceremony

  • Arrive dressed at ceremony site one hour before the wedding for photographs.

Ring Bearer

Prior To Wedding

  • Parents of ring bearer pay for wedding attire.
  • Attend wedding rehearsal.

Day of Ceremony

  • Arrive dressed at ceremony site one hour before the wedding for photographs.
  • Precede the bride and her father down the aisle carrying the ring pillow.

Ushers

Prior To Wedding

  • Purchase or pay for rental of own wedding attire.
  • Help best man with bachelor party.
  • Attend rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.

Day of Ceremony

  • Arrive dressed at ceremony site one hour before the wedding for photographs.
  • Decorate the transportation for bride and groom. Fold and distribute wedding programs. Make sure that grandparents, godparents, etc. have their flowers before they are seated. Responsible for lighting candelabras. Seat guests at the ceremony as follows:
    • If female, offer the right arm If male, walk along his left side
    • If couple, offer right arm to female, male follows a step behind
    Seat bride's guests in left pews, groom's guests in right pews. Leave first several rows of pews open on both sides for immediate family. Just prior to processional, escort groom's mother to her seat, then bride's mother to her seat. Two ushers may roll the aisle runner after both mothers are seated. Escort parents of the bridal couple and any VIP guests out of the church after the recessional. Indicate to other guests pew by pew, when they may leave their seats following the recessional. Check for and remove any items left in pews.
  • Collect ceremony decorations such as pew bows, baskets, aisle runner, etc.
